Amami is known as a tropical island, but it experiences four distinct seasons.
The best time of the year in terms of weather is summer, which spans from late June through early September. During this period, expect sizzling hot weather and occasional squalls. Summer is the busiest time of the year when the island thrives with tourism.
However, summer has its drawbacks, as it is also the season for tropical storms, Typhoons. Typhoon season usually extends from summer into autumn, with most occurrences happening in the summer. Fortunately, Amami has not experienced destructive typhoons in recent years.
As for best season for fishing, locals say autumn to winter is best as the sea currents will turn from two layer current to single layer due to drop in surface temperature and this allows better jig action leading to more chances to get a bite.
As mentioned, Typhoons can cause tremendous damage, and extreme weather can occur around Amami all year round. Safety is our top priority, and if conditions are deemed unsafe by the boat captain, we may need to cancel or postpone bookings.
Nonetheless, we will make every effort to ensure your fishing adventure on the island by leveraging our available resources and network.
We look forward to assisting you in your fishing quest on Amami Island
